Martina Löw développe un concept relationnel de l'espace qui englobe la structure sociale, le monde matériel des objets et des corps, et la dimension symbolique du monde social. Le principe directeur de l'auteur est l'hypothèse que l'espace émerge dans l'interaction entre les objets, les structures et les actions. S&#8217;appuyant sur une analyse critique des théories classiques de l'espace, elle développe une nouvelle théorie dynamique de l'espace que représente le contexte relationnel dans lequel l'espace est constitué.&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;L&#8217;ouvrage est en prise avec les théories sociologiques clés de l'espace non pas pour les rejeter, mais pour développer une théorie complexe globale de l'espace. Ce point de vue novateur sur l'interdépendance du matériel, du social, et des dimensions symboliques de l'espace permet également une nouvelle perspective sur l'architecture et le développement urbain éclairé par la sociologie de la culture. Cela revient à dire que la sociologie de l'espace conçoit l'environnement bâti, l'action sociale et la dimension symbolique de la vie quotidienne comme une matrice relationnelle.&#60;/p&#62;
